Corporate Childcare Support
Forward thinking companies are stepping in to support their employees with Family Care. Are you up to speed?
Here’s a little primer on Family Care – What it means, and why companies would want to do it.
Why should companies think about childcare at all?
There are a few major trends converging (overall and in Toronto, specifically) that make Family Care support for parent-employees a no-brainer:
Most obviously, from a business standpoint – is Talent.
Retention and acquisition of the most talented and driven employees is important – and becoming more and more difficult in Toronto as larger tech companies set up bases here. As companies grow — experienced people, who have been there and done that – are highly-valuable and sought after. The more senior employees are – they more likely it is that they have children. Helping them to manage home and work, providing tools to de-stressing the childcare situation as much as possible will be a serious benefit for them.
Although less obvious to some, NOT providing flexible childcare supports for employees will cost you money. Anytime childcare falls through (which happens to 30% of parents every quarter) – parents scramble to find a solution, and this takes away focus and affects productivity, which in turn costs businesses money – see our analysis here.
Retaining Senior Women.
This falls under the talent umbrella as well. It can be difficult to retain mid- and senior-level women – and this, too, comes at a cost. Middle-aged women retire a ton of expertise and knowledge when they opt-out of work because they can’t find something compatible with their home-life situation, not to mention companies missing out on the well-documented positive effects that retaining senior women does to profitability. Companies are now realization that if you want to retain women in your upper ranks – you need to support them at home, as well.
Supporting all parents.
There is now a lot more recognition of all the near-invisible work that goes on at home, after parents get home from work and on weekends to keep things running smoothly in families. With more dads sharing the parenting-chores – this isn’t a mom-only issue anymore. The more that you can do to make life easier for all employees – the better everyone will perform at work.
It’s the right thing to do.
If your company is talking about equity vs equality (ie. – rather than giving everyone the same help – let’s give everyone the help that THEY specifically need to be successful) – supporting with Family Care is definitely something that you should be thinking about.

What does Corporate Childcare look like?
There are several ways that HELM.life can help your company to support your employees with childcare:

HELM.life’s experienced staff put together a day full of fun activities – taking the stress off parents, making it easy for companies to support them, and most importantly – providing a day of fun for kids!
If you want to make conferences more inclusive – you should be offering childcare. HELM.life can help support attendees with both on-site care, and with in-home babysitting.
HELM.life’s experienced staff have years of experience in the daycare space, and manage all the details to running a fun, safe and happy on-site Conference childcare program.
Evening Event Care
Do you ever host events in your space? Do you run any out-of-regular hours events? If so – HELM.life can support in 2 ways:
- by offering discount codes for 2 hours of free in-home childcare for attendees through our sister company Datenight Babysitting
- By running an on-site activity to keep kids entertained
This way people aren’t missing out on opportunities because of a childcare hold-up.
Our sister company Datenight Babysitting has helped parents book over 50,000 hours of in-home childcare. Or, Partner with HELM.life to run an activity for kids while your event is happening.
Sick days, snow days, PA days and late meetings aside, providing access to a pool of pre-interviewed babysitters for your parent-employees to connect with gives your staff a quicker, more reliable path to high-quality in-home support.
Your parent employees are busy – buy them some time. Freeing up just 6 hours a month in child-free time will be appreciated 10 times over and will be paid back in dividends by your happier, healthier, less stressed employees.
